Unless food supplements are taken regularly serious dietary deficiencies may result and these can play a large part in the onset of illnesses such as rheumatism and arthritis.
However, it should be noted that the chemical substitutes obtainable from the chemists bear no relationship to the real thing.For instance, their so-called vitamin C is a substance called ascorbic acid, quite unlike the vitamin C obtainable from the health stores which is derived from rose hips or other naturally growing plants.
It has not yet been established exactly how many vitamins there are but a great deal has been discovered about them.
